Last night's show was 'Souvenir'. Awesome show! The show is about Florence Foster Jenkins a wealthy socialite who lived in NYC during the 1940s. In her own mind she thought she was a world class saprano, but in reality she had no talent. It was a very intimate theater, only about 75 people or so. I sat in the second row. The actress who played the lead was amazing. To be able to sing so off key is not easy. I was rolling in the aisles. She sang with such passion and yet she was so off. The only distracting thing was the other actor didn't know his lines and was reading it off the piano.
The end of the play lets you hear how she heard herself sing. She sang Ave Maria, and I have to say it brought me to tears.
Here is a link to a recording of the actual Florence Foster Jenkins in all her glory... http://www.brumm.com/cards/flojenkins.html
After the show I went to dinner at small Italian restaurant. Went back to the apt and took a nap.
Later that night I went to hear the NY Phil. As usual they were awesome...
